Do you get overwhelmed when thinking about the amount of weight you want to lose? If it seems like a mountain too hard to climb, then this tip is for you!

Break down the amount you want to lose into ‘bite-sized’ chunks. If you need to lose 50 lbs and that seems too hard, then make a goal to lose 5 lbs. 5 lbs is doable for anyone! Make the goal of losing 5 lbs measurable and attainable to you.

If you have a goal of losing 5 lbs in one month and have a healthy plan for doing that, then you are more likely to succeed than telling yourself you’ll lose 50 lbs by summer.

It is better to change life habits and take off weight gradually than to try fad diets to lose weight fast, then gain back more than you lost when you go back to your old habits again! Start walking regularly, try some weight bearing exercises and start eating small portions of whole foods high in nutrients and fibre like veggies instead of high calorie junk.

When I think of the philosophy of breaking large goals into small doable bits, I’m reminded of how I feel overwhelmed by the housework sometimes when it seems like there’s a mess everywhere and I don’t want to do it. I tell myself I’ll just do a few dishes, then once I get started, I usually keep going.

When we’ve let ourselves get into a mess with our bodies and health, we don’t feel like doing the hard work of cleaning it up! If you tell yourself to start small with one habit or one small goal, it gives you the energy to keep going when you see a small success.

Also, an object in motion tends to stay in motion. Start off with one foot in the right direction and just keep going one step at a time!

I hope this helps. Let me know if it works for you!

Homework:

Yes, I am giving you homework. No, I’m not your teacher! I just happen to know from personal experience that we often read something and think it sounds good but never put it into practice. If you think this might help you, I want you to make a plan today for one small goal you believe you can achieve . Write it down. Make a time goal and make a how-to plan for anything you want to change. It doesn’t have to be losing weight. Then just do it, pat yourself on the back and give yourself a gold star from me!
